You don’t have to wait 6 weeks

The early weeks after having a baby are filled with incredible change — physically, emotionally, and mentally. While you’re learning how to care for your newborn, it’s easy to feel disconnected from your own body or unsure of what is “normal” during recovery. Many moms feel unsure about movement, lifting, exercise, or whether the changes they’re experiencing are normal.

Leaving home with a newborn can feel overwhelming, which is why postpartum support should come to you. This in-home visit brings expert support, helping you reconnect with your body, move safely, and build confidence in your recovery while caring for your baby.

  • This visit is for any mom who wants support during postpartum recovery — whether you are experiencing symptoms or simply want guidance on safely returning to movement and caring for your baby.

  • How long is the visit?

The postpartum home care visit typically lasts anywhere from 60-90 minutes. Sometimes we have to work around baby’s schedule and that’s okay!

When should I schedule my postpartum home visit?

This visit is designed for the early postpartum period, typically 1–6 weeks after birth, but can extend beyond that time period as long as needed. You can set up your appointment immediately after the birth of your child, by contacting us via phone/text (248)266-5778, or by email (cecily@resilienceptandpilates.com).

Why a home visit instead of coming to a clinic?

The early weeks after birth are a major transition. Leaving the house with a newborn can feel overwhelming, and many moms are still recovering physically.

By coming to your home, we can assess your movement in the environment where recovery is actually happening — helping you with real-life activities like feeding positions, lifting your baby, getting in/out of bed, and managing daily demands.

What if I had a C-section? Can I still do this visit?

Absolutely. C-section recovery involves more than incision healing. We can address movement strategies, scar mobility (when appropriate), core and pelvic floor recovery, lifting mechanics, and ways to reduce strain while caring for your baby.

What if I had a vaginal birth?

A vaginal birth can still create significant changes to the pelvic floor, core, and overall movement patterns. This visit can help you understand your recovery and address any concerns following delivery.

Do I need to be having pain or problems to schedule?

No. Many moms schedule a visit because they want to be proactive and understand how to safely rebuild strength after pregnancy and birth. Postpartum recovery is not just about treating symptoms — it’s about helping you feel confident in your body again.

Do I need to have childcare to take care of my baby while this visit takes place?

Your baby is ALWAYS welcome and oftentimes part of the reason this visit is so valuable! We can work around feeding, diaper changes, and your baby’s needs.

Will my insurance cover this visit?

This is a cash-based service. A detailed superbill can be provided for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Coverage varies depending on your specific insurance plan.

Do I need a referral from my doctor, OB, or midwife?

No referral is required to see a physical therapist in Michigan. However, insurance requirements vary if you plan to submit a superbill for potential reimbursement. We encourage collaboration with your healthcare provider and would be happy to reach out to them regarding your care!

Is this the same as a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula provides valuable support with newborn care, recovery, and adjustment after birth. A postpartum home visit with a physical therapist focuses specifically on your physical recovery — including movement, core and pelvic health, body mechanics, and returning to the activities you love.
